Men’s Tennis: Cajuns Men’s Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors For Third Straight Year

Jeff Schneider, August 27, 2013

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team earned the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic Team Award for the third straight year, head coach Mark Jeffrey announced on Tuesday.

Louisiana also had seven players named to the ITA Scholar Athlete list for posting a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2012-13 season.

“For the third year in a row the Cajuns are well represented earning both the team academic award and having multiple individuals named on the scholar athlete list,” Jeffrey said. “The guys are really well organized and efficient with their time, which I think is a big reason for their success. I am really proud of the guys and this accomplishment. It speaks to the direction of the guys performing at the highest level both athletically and academically.”

A squad has to post a combined team GPA of 3.20 or better during the 2012-13 season to receive the honor.

Carl Alberton, Hunter Johnson, Yates Johnson, Elliot Minvielle, Frankie Hoar, Jake Wynan and Coleman Wahlborg make up the seven who were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes.

The Ragin’ Cajuns open the 2013 Fall season on Sept. 20 at the Baylor Invitational.
