Men’s Tennis: Cajuns Fall To No. 18 Mississippi State In NCAA First Round
AUSTIN, Texas – The 61st-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team fell to 18th-ranked Mississippi State 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Cajuns (20-5) finish the season with third highest winning percentage in program history.
The Bulldogs (19-10) grabbed a 1-0 advantage against the Sun Belt Champions after claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Rishab Agarwal and Zach White defeated the duo of Hunter Johnson and Carl Alberton at the No. 3 position, 8-2.
The 17th-ranked doubles team of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp clinched the point edging out Jake Wynan and Rick de Groot, 8-6, on line one.
Mississippi State carried the momentum over into singles competition with a straight set victory by White over Damian Farinola on court four, 6-2, 6-3, to make the score 2-0.
With three of the six courts going to a third set, the Bulldogs picked up the final two points to clinch the match.
103rd-ranked Malte Stropp defeated de Groot in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, on court two to pull MSU within a point from clinching.
No. 61 Florian Lakat clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a straight set win over Edgar Lopez at line one, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
