Men’s Tennis: Cajun Duo Picks Up Win At Cajun Tennis Classic

Championship Singles Bracket | Consolation Singles Bracket | Championship Doubles Bracket

LAFAYETTE, La. – Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola teamed up to knock off the third-seeded doubles team in the tournament in the first round of doubles play, highlighting the second day of action for the Ragin’ Cajuns at the Cajun Tennis Classic on Friday.

Lopez and Farinola, who teamed up a year ago to go 15-6 in the spring, got past the duo of George Goldhoff and Adrien Berkowitz (8-6) of Texas, a pair seeded third in the Classic. The win advanced them to the quarterfinals against TCU’s Arnau Dachs and Guillermo Nunez, who picked up an (8-2) win.

They were one of three Cajun duos to see action on the day, but the only one to advance against a field that included five players that were part of nationally-ranked tandems in the latest ITA doubles rankings.

Jake Wynan and Coleman Wahlborg fell (8-5) to Texas’ duo of John Mee and Michael Riechmann, while freshmen Vlad Kramarov and Rok Sitar dropped their match to Nathan Pasha and Nick Wood of Georgia.

In singles play, Lopez picked up his suspended second-round match in the Championship bracket against Georgia’s Nick Wood, but Wood was able to advance in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).

Farinola picked up the Cajuns second win of the tournament on Friday morning, defeating teammate Sitar (6-4, 6-3) in the consolation bracket. He advanced on face TCU’s Will Stein, who pulled out a (6-3, 6-3) win.

Play for the remainder of the Cajun Classic will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Cajun Courts.
