Men’s Basketball: What other UL coaches are saying about the basketball team

Daily Advertiser, March 21, 2014

What other Cajun coaches and administrators are saying about the Sun Belt Conference Tournament-champion UL’s basketball team’s trip to the NCAA Tournament at a time its football team is coming off three straight New Orleans Bowl wins, its baseball team is ranked No. 5 in the nation and its softball team is nationally ranked as well:

“To me it’s pretty exciting. I don’t think you see that type of consistency anywhere across the country. To me, that says a lot about the coaching staffs we have. Recruiters find a way to get it done with the available resources we have, and that makes it even more impressive.

“I’m glad we’re finally getting some national attention. I think it’s past time the Ragin’ Cajuns get a little more respect nationally than what we have gotten in the past.”

– UL football coach Mark Hudspeth

“People don’t realize the time and the effort and the work that it takes to become a champion. You can win games, but to become a champion is a really elusive thing to run down.”

– UL baseball coach Tony Robichaux

“The way they (the Cajuns men) play, their resilience – it shows you that hard work helps you to win toward the end of games.”

– UL women’s basketball coach Garry Brodhead

“Our girls are so proud of our basketball team. It was so much fun to see how hard our team played. They were down and they just kept fighting. It’s a great thing. To watch them win it like they did just made you proud to be a Ragin’ Cajun. I’m excited for our basketball team, our university and our athletic department.”

– UL softball coach Michael Lotief

“It’s exciting for all aspects of the Cajun nation. It’s exciting for the fans, obviously, because this is what they cheer for every day. It’s exciting for the staff, because they work so hard, and the coaches, the student-athletes. It’s kind of a reward for all the hard work that goes into it by everybody.”

– UL athletic director Scott Farmer
