Men’s Basketball: Washington Earns Sun Belt Conference Weekly Honors
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns junior forward Bryce Washington was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a pair of victories and extending their winning streak to eight games. Washington, a former St. Augustine High (New Orleans, La.) product, averaged a double-double with 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as Louisiana (8-2) earned wins over in-state programs Loyola of New Orleans and Louisiana Tech. The 6-foot-6 forward, went a combined 18-for-25 (.720) from the floor while averaging 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per contest. Washington, who is tied for the national lead with eight double-doubles on the season, opened the week with a 19-point, 10-rebound performance against Loyola, as he went 9-for-13 from the floor. He added three assists, three blocks and two steals in the 94-60 victory. He came back in Louisiana’s 91-83 win over Louisiana Tech last Saturday with an identical 19-point, 10-rebound performance, going 9-for-12 from the floor with three steals and an assist. Washington joined teammate Frank Bartley in earning SBC Player of the Week honors. Bartley was named the league’s Player of the Week on Nov. 29 after helping the Ragin’ Cajuns to wins over James Madison and Texas Southern.
