The Cajuns’ No. 6 all-time leading scorer, Graylin Warner, is one of five additional members of the 1,000-point club the has confirmed they will be in attendance for the UL Basketball Reunion.

Joining Warner this weekend will be Kevin Figaro, Payton Townsend, Alonza Allen and Brad Boyd.

Warner and Allen played a major role during the 1983-84 season as the Cajuns advanced to the NIT Final Four at Madison Square Garden. They also helped UL reach the NCAA tournament in 1981-82 after winning the Southland Tournament and returned to the Big Dance in 1982-83. Both went on to be drafted in the 1984 NBA draft with Warner being selected by Seattle and Allen picked by the L.A. Clippers.

Warner played for UL from 1980-84, amassing 1,762 points in his four-year career. Throughout his career, he was tabbed on the NABC District VIII All-America team, the AP All-America squad, the Sporting News All-America Squad and a Basketball Weekly All-South honorable mention. He earned All-Southland honors in 1982-83 and was a three-time All-Louisiana Second team selection.

In the historic 97-76 win over Santa Clara that put UL in the NIT Final Four, Warner scored a game-high 22 points and had 11 rebounds.

He is school’s all-time leader in games started with 117 and ranks 5th all-time in steals (153), 16th in rebounds (682) and 19th in assists (274).

Figaro ranks 13th all-time on the Cajuns’ list with 1,474 points. During his senior season he was named First Team All-Louisiana, First Team All-Southland and the 1981 SLC All-Tournament Team. He was drafted by Atlanta in the fourth round of the 1981 NBA draft.

Townsend ranks 26th all-time after scoring 1,240 points from 1968-72. He still holds the school record for single season field goal percentage. In the 1970-71 season, Townsend knocked down 62.6 percent of his shots (127-203). Playing alongside the legendary Bo Lamar in the 1970-71 season, Townsend helped guide the Cajuns to a 25-4 record, wins in the NCAA College South Regional and a trip to the NCAA College Tournament.

In 1971-72, Townsend and UL were named Southland Conference Champions after going 23-3 with an 8-0 mark in league play. The team earned a berth to the NCAA Midwest Regional and defeated No.10 Marshall, 112-101, before falling to No. 4 Louisville, 84-88. He also holds the school record for most rebounds in a half after grabbing 16 against Arkansas in 1969.

Allen, who played all four years with Warner, finished his career with 1,211 points. His 118 career steals ranked 6th all-time at the end of his career and now stands at 17th all-time. In the NIT win over Santa Clara, Allen scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and pulled down seven boards.

Boyd, UL’s career leading three-point shooter, finished his career with 1,130 points. He scored 813 of his total from three-point range, going 271 of 777 from beyond the arc (.349). In 2003, he was named First Team All-Louisiana and Second Team All-Sun Belt after leading the team with 16.8 points per game. He led the team in assists in 2001-02 (110, 3.5 apg) and 2003-04 (104, 3.6 apg).

Fans will have a chance to meet all of the legends of UL basketball on Saturday at the Cajundome with a pre-game autograph session from 6-7 p.m. 

This weekend, Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns celebrate 100 years since the start of basketball at the University. Current and former coaches, players and staff members from seven different decades will get together Friday and Saturday for the UL Men’s Basketball Reunion.

Players, coaches, managers, trainers and other personnel from the 1940’s to the 2000’s will return to Lafayette to swap stories and share memories from past playing days.

Saturday’s game versus the Warhawks is also "Take a Kid to the Game" day. Admission is free to young fans under 12 years old. The first 500 kids will also receive a free basketball. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT.
