Men’s Basketball: Thomas Tabbed With LSWA HonorMen’s Basketball: Thomas Tabbed With LSWA Honor Men’s Basketball: Thomas Tabbed With LSWA Honor After averaging a double-double for the week and leading the Cajuns to back-to-back wins, Louisiana’s J.J. Thomas has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week.
Thomas, a 6-5 true freshman, averaged 20.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds as the Cajuns posted wins over Centenary and Louisiana-Monroe. Against Centenary, the Opelousas-native grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and posted a career-high 19 points for his third consecutive double-double. He also recorded three blocks and two steals in 30 minutes of action as UL cruised to a 94-62 win at the Cajundome In Saturday’s 84-75 win over the Warhawks, he upped his career-best, scoring 22 points and narrowly missed his fourth-straight double-double with nine rebounds. Over the two games he was 17-of-28 from the floor (60.7 percent). Through 15 games this season, Thomas is averaging 9.7 points and leads the Cajuns with 6.2 rebounds per contest. In Sun Belt play, he has started to shine and is scoring 10.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game.
