Men’s Basketball: Long Named To NABC All-District Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Friday the NABC Division I All-District teams and UPS All-District coaches for 2014-15 with Louisiana junior Shawn Long being named to the all-District 24 first team.

Long was joined by Georgia State’s R.J. Hunter and Ryan Harrow, Georgia Southern’s Jelani Hewitt, and ULM’s Tylor Ongwae on the first team. The second team was made up by Anthony Livingston (Arkansas State), Frank Eaves (Appalachian State), Ken Williams (South Alabama), Lonnie McClanahan (UT Arlington) and Emani Gant (Texas State).

Long was named to the all-Sun Belt Conference first team for the second straight season at the end of the regular season and was named a Lou Henson all-American earlier this week.

In his junior season Long was the top big man in the Sun Belt Conference, averaging 16.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, while shooting .542 from the field. He was the only player in the SBC to rank in the top five in both scoring and rebounding, and his 52 career double-doubles are the most by any active player in the country.

A Morgan City, La., native, Long reached double figures in scoring in all 20 SBC games this year. He closed the season on a high note with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the quarterfinals of the CIT on Thursday against Evansville.

Earlier this season Long became just the third player in UL history to reach 1,000 rebounds and also ranks second all-time in program history in blocked shots.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.
