Men’s Basketball: Long Named LSWA Player Of The Week

MONROE, La. — After averaging a double-double for the week, Louisiana’s Shawn Long has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week for after voting by an LSWA panel on Monday.
 
The Morgan City, La., native made the most of his 21.5 minutes per game as he helped the Ragin’ Cajuns pick up home wins over Louisiana Tech and Centenary. Long shot 71.4 percent from the floor and over the two contests he averaged 23.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as he helped Louisiana post a perfect 2-0 mark on the week.

Against the Bulldogs he turned in his second straight double-double with season highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds, hitting 10 of 16 shots from the field. Three days later he needed just 19 minutes to go 10-for-12 from the floor for 22 points and seven rebounds, including his first three-point bucket of the season, as the Cajuns set a new school record with 16 threes in a 115-59 rout of Centenary. He also finished the week hitting .714 from the floor.

It is the third time in Long’s career he has earned the weekly honor from the LSWA.

Long and the Ragin’ Cajuns host Milligan College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cajundome before closing out non-conference play on Saturday against Northwestern State in Natchitoches.
