Media: Advertiser snags nine press awards

The Daily Advertiser received honors Saturday from the Louisiana Press Association’s 2014 Better Newspaper Competition and from the Associated Press Managing Editors in New Orleans. In total, the newspaper received nine awards, including three first-place finishes.

In the LPA contest, the Advertiser received six awards, which were given this weekend during the 135th annual Louisiana Press Association Convention in New Orleans. The newspaper competes against other Louisiana papers with circulations of 14,000 or more.

Best lifestyle coverage: Division 1, third place, The Advertiser staff

The Daily Advertiser additionally picked up three awards from the Associated Press Managing Editors. The newspapers competes against other news organizations in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Best sports enterprise/feature writing: Second place, Tim Buckley

Best investigative reporting: Second place, Claire Taylor

Best sports action photo: Third place, Leslie Westbrook
