Marty Cannon Gridiron Alumni & 2009 Ragin Cajun Lettermen Club Hall of Fame

Dear Gridiron,
A Gridiron congratulations goes out to Rocky Guidry and Stephen Spinella for joining the Ragin Cajun Lettermen Club’s 2009 Hall of Fame class.  Rocky and Stephen will be honored along with Jennifer Heno Marsh (Tennis) and Becky McMurtry (Softball) at halftime of the Homecoming game against Florida Atlantic on October 24.  Game time is at 4:00.  The Lettermen Club will also be hosting a reception in honor of the 2009 Hall of Fame class on Friday, October 23 at a la Carte in the Oil Center from 5:00-7:00.  The reception is free and there will be a cash bar.  Please RSVP with a call to 337-482-0900.
The Cajun return home this weekend with a game against North Texas at 6:00.  There will be no formal tailgate for the Gridiron but the tailgate spot will be available for Gridiron members to gather and relax before game time.
A few final things:
This is a reminder that the 2010 Blackjack Memorial Golf Scramble hosted by the Gridiron Alumni Club will be held at Acadian Hills Country Club on March 26.  Registration forms should be ready by Homecoming so you can plan well ahead of time to attend and support this event in honor of Bill Landry.
I’ve also been in contact with Scott Farmer, senior associate athletic director at UL, to talk about building a stronger personal and financial relationship with the Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation.  We had a good discussion and I along with the Board of Directors have been discussing some ideas we have regarding this.  Feel free to contact me regarding your thoughts.
I have also opened discussion with Dan Hare at the University’s Alumni Association to discuss options for the Gridiron Alumni Club to become an official alumni chapter for the University.  The benefits we gain with this move are immensely beneficial for the Gridiron and the long term impact we can have supporting the football team like we always have.  Again, feel free to contact me regarding your thoughts about this.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me via email or on my cell: 337-501-0960
As always, it’s a pleasure leading the Gridiron.  Every football player that ever wore the uniform for this university is considered a member so please take advantage of the opportunity to share your ideas on how we can continue to grow even stronger.
Go Cajuns!
