Louisiana Volleyball Welcomes Brandy Huskey and Josh Comer to Coaching Staff
LAFAYETTE – Brandy Huskey and Josh Comer have been appointed as assistant coaches for Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball, joining head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot on the program’s 2020 coaching staff.
The hiring of Huskey and Comer is subject to approval by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.
Huskey spent the previous four seasons (2016-19) as an assistant coach at Texas Tech, where in 2018 she helped guide the Red Raiders to their best Big 12 run since the 2004 season, and last season posted a third consecutive winning season.
While at TTU, she helped Long Beach State transfer Missy Owens write her name in the Texas Tech record book after she became the Red Raiders’ first student-athlete to earn Setter of the Year honors in 2018. Owens was also awarded 2018 AVCA all-region and All-Big 12 first team honors.
Before returning to Lubbock, where she began her collegiate playing career as a setter and defensive specialist for the Red Raiders, Huskey launched her coaching career in 2014 as a volunteer coach at the University of Houston before moving on to spend one season at Houston Baptist.
Huskey, a native of Columbus, Texas, was a four-year letterwinner competing collegiately for Texas Tech (2010-11) and UTSA (2012-13). Her younger sister, Cheyenne, played two seasons at nationally ranked Florida before completing her collegiate career with fellow Sun Belt-foe Texas State in 2019.
Comer arrives in Louisiana following a three-year stint with Troy Athletics, working with the event staff and serving as a volunteer coach with the Trojans’ volleyball program.
The St. Louis-area native aided in the position development of setters, passers and blockers while at Troy, and also focused on the scouting of serve receive and opponent attacks. A recipient of the 2018 AVCA Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship, he also assisted with the Trojans’ youth clinics and camps.
Comer was deeply involved in the club circuit in his hometown, primarily working with St. Louis High Performance Volleyball Club from 2012-17.
An outside hitter and defensive specialist as a collegiate athlete, Comer competed for Missouri Baptist University from 2013-16. He earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades in 2015 and helped lead the program to four conference championships and a pair of national championships (2015, 2016).
Louisiana (14-16, 10-6 Sun Belt in 2019) finished as the Sun Belt West Division runner-up last season after ending the regular season as the league’s hottest team by winning nine of its final 10 matches. The Ragin’ Cajuns recently completed a program-record stretch of conference victories recorded over a three-year span, totaling 30 Sun Belt Conference triumphs since 2017.
