Louisiana Athletics Communications Claims Pair of LSWA Awards

Story commemorating 30th anniversary of Conway’s Silver Medal earns first-place

NATCHITOCHES – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics Communications Department brought home a pair of awards during the 2019 Louisiana Sports Writers Association State SID contest announced on Sunday during the final day of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Weekend.

Louisiana associate director of athletics communications director Matt Sullivan earned a first-place award in Division V Features on his story commemorating the 30th anniversary of Hollis Conway‘s silver medal performance at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. The judges comments included: "The winner’s extensive two-part feature on 1988 Seoul Olympics silver medalist high jumper Hollis Conway was a breezy, easy read down memory lane. Winner’s judicious use of quotes was excellent. Self-editing is a beautiful thing."

Sullivan also earned a third-place award in Division I/II Media Guide Category for his work on the Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Basketball Media Guide.

Longtime Ragin’ Cajuns sports information director Dan McDonald, writing for the Acadiana Advocate and a member of both the CoSIDA and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, earned a third-place award in the College Columns Open Class for his column on head football coach Billy Napier.
