LAFAYETTE – Let’s Geaux! The phrase is familiar to fans of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, and Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard has given it new meaning and value with the unveiling of the Louisiana Athletics Strategic Plan, which sports the name "Let’s Geaux".

A road map for Louisiana’s coaches, staff and student-athletes, the plan was created from a seven month-long process with input and guidance sought from student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation members and community leaders.

Beginning the Ragin’ Cajuns’ three-year (2019-22) strategic plan are newly established vision and mission statements. The vision, "to be a nationally prominent Division I athletics program that promotes a cULture of excellence for our student-athletes, coaches and staff", is complemented by the mission, which is "to geaux beyond by inspiring elite performance and achieving greatness".

"Let’s Geaux will set the course for Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics over the next three years," Maggard said. "Our goals and objectives are measurable and achievable and will allow us to ultimately accomplish the vision set forth."

Core values for the department have also been instituted, with all five – IntegrityServiceAuthenticityInclusion and Excellence – serving as the guiding principles for Ragin’ Cajuns Athletics.

Within three overall strategic priorities – Student-Athlete ExperienceFiscal and Facility Management and cULture – there are nine specific goals and 27 measurable objectives.

Within the first strategic priority of Student-Athlete Experience, there are three goals: Academic Achievement, Competitive Success and Student-Athlete Development. Providing an environment that positions Louisiana’s student-athletes to achieve academic excellence is the first and foremost intention, followed by position all 16 of the department’s sport programs to compete for and win championships. To aid in student-athlete development, the Ragin’ Cajuns’ coaches and staff will aim to promote a cULture of service and holistic awareness, while focusing on personal development and post-graduation success.

The three goals making up the second strategic priority of Fiscal and Facility Management are: Budget Development, Resource Generation and Facility Enhancement. Implementing a budget allocation process that fosters a cULture of fiscal responsibility and increasing and maximizing revenue streams will be the first two focuses of the strategic priority. Lastly, Louisiana will create short- and long-term facility plans that outline priorities and costs.

For cULture, the third and final strategic priority, the thee goals are: Internal cULture, Branding and External Engagement. In the continued development of internal cULture, coaches and staff will be asked to foster an atmosphere of trust, communication and inclusion. For spreading the brand of the Ragin’ Cajuns, departmental staff will work to position the school as a prominent athletics program and industry leader, all while advancing the brand locally, regionally and nationally. Finally, external engagement will be a focus as Louisiana will work to broaden its base of supporters and create a first-class experience for all within Cajun Nation.

"Our staff has begun work on many of the objectives outlined in this plan," Maggard said. "We look forward to sharing the progress made each year, and I am very appreciative for the time and insight provided by the strategic planning committee.
Their perspectives were crucial to this process. Let’s Geaux!"
