Indoor Track & Field: Robinson, Glueck Post Second-Place Finishes To Lead Cajuns At SBC Indoor

Men finish sixth overall; women move up two spots from 2017 finish
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Beau Robinson set a school-record in the men’s 5,000-meters while Sven Glueck earned a second-place finish in the men’s heptathlon to lead the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Tuesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Louisiana concluded the two-day meet in sixth-place in the men’s standings with 58 points while the women’s team finished ninth with 22 points.
"Obviously, we are disappointed with our placing and this was just one of those meets where nothing seemed to go right," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "We were not a team with a lot of depth in the indoor, so when you get a couple mistakes it really shows. We knew we had a lot to replace losing so many seniors from last year, and the new kids we added competed hard. We just ended up in the ninth-place spots, barely missing finals too many times at this meet."
Robinson recorded a time of 14:43.20 in the men’s 5,000-meter run to finish second overall for Louisiana and break the previous school record (14:44.10) set by Pat McGrath in 1982. Teammate Stanley Limoh posted a time of 14;46.15 to place fourth overall in the race.
Glueck moved up one spot after the first day in the men’s heptathlon, finishing with 5,026 points to finish behind Texas State’s Ben Collerton (5,115). Glueck, who posted a time of 2:50.22 to finish third overall in the 1,000-meter run, added a fifth-place finish in the high jump for the Ragin’ Cajuns after he cleared the bar at 6-6 ¼.
Chandler Mixon placed seventh overall in the heptathlon for Louisiana, scoring 4,606 points in his first SBC indoor meet. Freshman Kameron Cummings earned an eighth-place finish for Louisiana in the triple jump, posting a mark of 45-5 ¾.
Tyler Hughes narrowly missed All-SBC honors in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fourth overall with a time of 8.11. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of Kemondrick Walter, Cummings, John-Paul Bergeron and Logan LaGarde earned a seventh-place finish with a tie of 3:27.42.
Seniors Courtney Musgrove and Claire Hodges each posted top-8 finishes for Louisiana in the women’s 5,000-meter run with Musgrove finishing fourth overall (17:48.18) and Hodges placing eighth (17:59.60). In the women’s pentathlon, Alex Morrow finished seventh overall after scoring a personal-best 3,378 points.
"We are ready to put the indoor behind us and are still optimistic for the outdoor," Badeaux said. "We add a few key athletes back in the mix who were either hurt or didn’t have indoor eligibility left and didn’t compete indoor."
Louisiana will open its outdoor season on March 10 when it competes at the McNeese Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles.
