Golf: Trio of Former Cajuns to Play in Open
LAFAYETTE-Three former members of the Ragin’ Cajuns golf team are set to compete in the Mary Bird Perkins Merrill Lynch Open at the University Club in Baton Rouge. Michael Smith (2005-08), Greg Sonnier (1996-99) and B.C. Thibeaux, III (2005-08) are all set to compete in the Adams Tour event on Thursday, June 11-Sunday, June 14.
The event will be 72 holes of stroke play. The field will be cut to the top 45 players and ties after 36 holes. Any participant shooting 86 or higher will automatically be cut from the field. Tournament days are Thursday-Sunday.
There will be a Pro-Am held on Wednesday, June 10 preceding the actual tournament.

UL Summer Golf Update Four Cajuns’ golfers competed in the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship held on June 4-7, with all four golfers making the cut. James Anderson, Andrew Noto, Dustin Petit and signee Ethan Savoy all competed in the event, all finishing in the top 45.
Noto paced all Cajuns in the event carding a two-over par tournament to finish in a tie for 11th. Noto rebounded from back-to-back opening rounds over par to shoot one under par in his third round and even par in his final round of competition. Anderson finished the event in a tie for 31st, while Petit closed out the event in a tie for 36th. Savoy, a signee from Broussard, La., finished in a tie for 42nd.

Kärnten Golf Open Philipp Fendt, the top ranked amateur in Austria, competed in the Kärnten Golf Open over the weekend. Fendt finished as the top amateur in the tournament, missing the cut by one stroke. After an opening round of one over par, Fendt carded a two-under par round of 70 to finish the tournament at one-under par.
