Golf: Tolson’s Top-10 Finish Leads Louisiana At The All-American

Ragin’ Cajuns post second straight 862; heads to Border Olympics beginning Monday

HUMBLE, Texas – Senior Jack Tolson recorded four of his five birdies during a five-hole stretch on the back nine and posted his third career top-10 finish as he led the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Golf team to a fourth-place finish at the 2020 All-American Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
Louisiana, which carded a team score of 2-under-par 862 for the second straight event, posted a final round score of 2-under-286 to finish two strokes ahead of No. 32-ranked Houston (864) and UTSA (864) with No. 30-ranked South Carolina six strokes back at 868.
 
Tolson, who finished at 4-under 68 in the final round and 4-under 212 for the 54-hole event, recorded a birdie for Louisiana at No. 4 before making the turn and bogeying the par-4, 350-yard No. 10. The senior then followed up with three straight birdies for the Ragin’ Cajuns and added his fifth two holes later to eventually record his first top-10 finish since claiming medalist honors at the 2018 Lake Charles Invitational.
 
Charlie Flynn and Peter Hinnant each finished at 1-over-217 for Louisiana with Flynn posting an even-par 72 in the final round with Hinnant carding a 1-over 73. Bjorn Gudjonsson fired a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish at 6-over 222 for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Hudson Dubinski posting a 2-over 74 and finishing at 223.
 
Sam Houston State claimed team medalist honors with a wire-to-wire finish, posting a 10-under 276 for the round to finish at 840 for the tournament. Wake Forest, ranked No. 8 in the GolfStat National rankings, was four shots back at 844 with tournament co-host Rice (852) finishing third.
 
Louisiana, Houston and UTSA rounded out the top-5 in the 13-team field with South Carolina, Louisiana Tech (871), ULM (874) and Lamar (879) finishing seventh through 10th.
 
Sam Houston State’s Jack Randle took home medalist honors after shooting a 6-under 66 to finish at 205 and three strokes ahead of teammate Luis Carrera.
 
Louisiana will return to the state of Texas for its third event of the spring beginning on Monday at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. The 54-hole event will conclude on Tuesday (Feb. 25) and will be held at the Max Mandel Golf Course.
