Golf: Strandemo Places Second At Qatar Open

DOHA, QATAR – Ragin’ Cajuns golf junior Thomas Strandemo just missed out on earning a coveted spot in the Euro Tour’s Qatar

Masters after falling by one stroke to Jakub Hrinda at the Qatar Open hosted at Doha Golf Club earlier this month.

Strandemo had shared the top spot after two days of play at even-par 144 with Hrinda. In the final round, Hindra carded a score of even par (72) to win the competition and claim the exemtion into the European Tour event.

A Fargo, North Dakota native, Strandemo finished in 4th place in 2013 and improved to 3rd place last year before collected the runner-up’s prize this year as he fired a 1-over par 73 for an aggregate 217 in the final round.

"On the 17th, I missed a shortee and that was a two-shot swing," Strandemo said. "On the 18th, I had a very good shot for eagle but did not make the rolling putt. The losing streak continues, and next year I hope to come back and win. It’d be nice if the organizers gave away two qualifying spots for the Qatar Masters, instead of one."

Strandemo and the Cajuns open the spring season Feb. 9-10 at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. For updates and info on Ragin’ Cajuns golf follow the squad on twitter @CajunGolf.
