Golf: Making the Turn/Chip Shots – Bill Bass Wrap – Record Field Participated 10/10/12Golf: Making the Turn/Chip Shots – Bill Bass Wrap – Record Field Participated 10/10/12 Dan McDonald, The Advertiser, October 10, 2012 BILL BASS WRAPThe four-man team of Brandon Porter, Karl Lawrence, Jason Smith and Ben Baudoin combined for a 21-under par 51 net score Friday to win the Bill Bass Open at Les Vieux Chenes. The event, part of UL’s Homecoming activities, attracted a record field of 144 golfers. Proceeds from the tournament go to the Bill Bass Scholarship Fund and the Ragin’ Cajun golf team. Taking second place with a 17-under-par 55 score was the team of Timothy Howard, Gus Rantz IV, former Cajun tennis great Ashley Rhoney and ex-UL baseball standout Ken Meyers. They won a scorecard playoff for second with the team of Toby Zeringue, Matt Hulin, Justin Moss and Jourdan Despot. Individual honors went to ex-Cajun baseball standout Jeffries Tatford with the day’s longest drive on the par-four fifth hole — where he drove the green — along with Stephen Boudreaux and Richard Minvielle. They were closest to the hole respectively on the third hole (2’9") and 12th hole (5’2"). Lawson Rouly won the tournament’s putting contest, holing a 40-foot putt and winning in a playoff with Aaron Guidry.
