Golf: Magnus Named To All-Sun Belt Team For Third Straight Year
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns senior golfer Haraldur Magnus received his third straight All-Sun Belt Conference honor after posting the lowest season scoring average of his career during the 2015-16 campaign, the league office announced on Thursday. Magnus was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team for the second time in his career. "Once again we see Haddi (Haraldur) make the all-conference team for the third straight year," head coach Theo Sliman said. "That is a testament to the consistency and leadership that he has shown this program during his career. He’s already been a member of a distinguished list of Cajuns golfers that have earned this honor, and now he is one of the few players in program history to earn the honor in three consecutive years. Hopefully the guys on the team and recruits coming in can be inspired by this and carry the torch next year in his place." Magnus joins Greg Sonnier, Matt Trevino, Orn Hjartarson, and Philipp Fendt as the only Ragin’ Cajuns in program history to earn the honor in three consecutive seasons. Magnus was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2015 after receiving first team honors in 2014. A native of Reykjavik, Iceland, Magnus earned his first career individual bid to the NCAA postseason this week as he was selected to compete at the Stillwater Regional from May 16-18 at Karsten Creek Golf Club. Magnus ranks 110 nationally with a 72.09 scoring average and has 10 top 25 finishes this season including five top 10 performances and a tournament victory. The senior had 18 rounds of par or better this season including a career low 66 at the prestigious Border Olympics. In 12 tournaments, Magnus only had one round that didn’t count towards the team score while carding five overall tournament scores of even par or better.
