New Iberia native named to second-team on All-Louisiana squad

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns golfer Micah Goulas picked up a postseason honor as the junior was named Newcomer of the Year as the 2019 All-Louisiana Men’s and Women’s golf teams were announced on Saturday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).

The teams were selected on the basis of nominations made by the sports information directors from the state. The list of nominations was based on stats and honors accumulated through the conference tournaments.

"Very proud and happy for Micah being named second-team All Louisiana as well as earning Newcomer of the Year honors," head coach Theo Sliman said. "It’s been a very valuable year for him as we saw him become very comfortable and acclimated to our program and Division I athletics.

"He will certainly build on this award and honor. I greatly look forward to his leadership this coming year as he and this team have high expectations for the 2019-20 season."

Goulas, a New Iberia native and former Catholic High product, posted a 73.63 scoring average in 19 rounds of play during the 2018-19 season for Louisiana. He posted three top-25 finishes on the season with six rounds of par or better.

Named the fourth LSWA Golf Newcomer of the Year in school history, Goulas made his Ragin’ Cajuns debut at the David Toms Intercollegiate, playing as an individual and earning a 10th-place finish, highlighted by a 3-under-par 69.

He led the Ragin’ Cajuns at the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational, finishing with a 4-under 212 while his par-3 Scoring Average (3.0469) during the season finished as the second-lowest in school history.

ULM head coach Tim Baldwin earned Coach of the Year honors on the men’s side, while McNeese’s Blake Elliott was voted Golfer of the Year and represented the Cowboys on the first team. LSU rookie Michael Sanders took home Freshman of the Year accolades.
