Golf: Garon Named To All-Sun Belt Conference First Team
Contact: Jeff Schneider
NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second straight season Ragin’ Cajuns senior Brandt Garon earned all-conference honors, as he was one of six golfers named to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team, the league office announced on Thursday morning.
“This is five years in a row that we have had a first team all-conference player,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “For Brandt to receive this award, which is voted on by the conference coaches, shows the level of respect that he has garnered all season long. Brandt was really challenged to step up and fill the shoes of two outstanding seniors in Philipp Fendt and Andrew Noto. This is a testament to the quality of his combined fall and spring season performance.”
Garon finished the season with a 73.82 stroke average while placing inside of the top 15 six times through the season including four times in the spring. The Baton Rouge, La. native closed out the season with his fourth career top 10 performance placing in a tie for seventh at five-over par at the SBC Championships.
The senior saw his best finish of the season come at home as he notched a fourth place showing carding a season-best score of two-under par at the 28th Annual Louisiana Classics.
“Brandt really put the team on his shoulders in the spring finishing inside of the top 15 in over half of the tournaments,” Sliman noted. “His consistent play certainly warrants this award. It is an award that I know he will cherish. Hopefully this inspires next year’s class to step up and continue our expectations of producing all-conference players.”
Garon joins former Cajuns golfers Phillip Fendt, Andrew Noto, Kyle Pritchard and Dustin Petit to have earned the honor under Sliman.
