WEST POINT, Miss. – Freshman Charlie Flynn carded a 4-under par 68 to match his lowest round of the 2018-19 season and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns golf team posted one of four below-par rounds of the day as the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship wrapped up on Tuesday at the Old Waverly Golf Club.

Louisiana, which was making its final tuneup before starting play at the Sun Belt Conference Championships beginning Sunday, carded a 1-under 287 as a team on the par-72, 7,000-yard course to finish in 10th place in the 15-team field at 874.

Flynn, who started at the No. 10 tee, opened the day with birdies at No. 10 and 16 before a bogey on the par-4, 445-yard No. 18 left him with a 1-under 35 on the back nine. The freshman played flawless golf on the front nine, opening with consecutive birdies on No. 1 and 2 before eventually capping his day with a birdie on the par-5, 552-yard No. 9.

Flynn posted his second top-20 finish of the season for Louisiana after finishing the 54-hole event in a tie for 20th place at 1-under 216. Jack Tolson posted a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish at 7-over 223 for Louisiana with Peter Hinnant (222) and Hudson Dubinski (225) each carding a 2-over 74 with Micah Goulas (225) shooting a 5-over 77.

First-day leader ULM held off Ole Miss for the team title, finishing one stroke ahead at 846. Ole Miss (847), No. 4-ranked Vanderbilt (849), Little Rock (850) and host Mississippi State (851) rounded out the top five.

First-day leader Marcus Byrd of Middle Tennessee maintained his hold of the top spot, shooting a 5-under 67 to finish at 203 – three strokes ahead of Jackson Suber of Ole Miss.

Louisiana will begin play on Sunday at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Miramar Beach, Fla. Play will begin on the par-71, 6,900-yard course at the Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort on Sunday, single-round action continuing through Tuesday.

The Sun Belt Championship continues with its match play format this year with teams playing three rounds of stroke play before the top four teams move to match play to decide the title. The top four teams at the conclusion of the 54-hole stroke play will advance to match play.

The semifinals and finals of match play are set for Wednesday.
