Golf: Fendt Tees Off On European Tour
Playing as an amateur, Louisiana’s Philipp Fendt shot one-over in the opening round of the Karten Gold Open in Klagenfurt, Austria. The event is part of the European Tour’s Challenge Tour.
"This is just another step for Philipp," said head UL coach Theo Sliman. "He continues to gain experience and exposure, adding to his game day after day." Fendt, an Austrian native, struggled on the front nine posting a score of 40.But he played bogey-free golf on the back nine en route to a score of 33 to finish at 73 (1) for the day. "This is a great opportunity for him," added Sliman. "He’s playing against some tough European competition and showing that he can hold his own." The Challenge Tour is the European equivalent of the PGA’s Nationwide Tour. The Karten Gold Open resumes play on Friday.
