Golf: Farinola Reaches Turkey F25 Futures Double FinalISTANBUL, Turkey – Junior Damian Farinola of the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team added to his success this summer as he reached the final of the F25 Futures doubles main draw this past weekend.
"Making two finals of multiple 10,000 futures events establishes Damian as one of our top doubles players this year,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “Damian has collected 20 ATP points this summer which is the most ATP points a returning Cajuns player has picked up over the summer in program history. It is very important this year that we have a leader who sets the example in the clubhouse and walks the walk. I believe Damian will be that guy come this fall.”
Farinola, a native of Adelaide, South Australia, made the run to finals with teammate Petr Michnev of Czech Repibluc. The pair pulled off a strong victory against the third-seeded team of Edoardo Eremin and Barkin Yalcinkale in the first round, 6-4, 6-2.
After a 6-4, 6-3 win in the quarterfinal, Farinola and Michnev upset the top-seeded team of Jerome Inzerillo and Sebastian Rivera, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
The duo suffered a setback in the finals falling 6-2, 6-4 to the tournament winners Nikala Scholtz and Tucker Vorster of South Africa. The finals appearance is the second of the summer for Farinola in Futures events.
"We look for Damian and Edgar to make the NCAA doubles tournament this year,” Jeffrey added. “The two of them should be able to get off to a good start this fall and push for an NCAA bid come next May."
