Golf: Family tradition + Lafayette City Golf Championship Final ScoresDan McDonald, Daily Advertiser, July 11, 2011| YOUNGSVILLE — Add another Lafayette City Championship to the Weber family’s golf trophy case. And make room for the third of the brothers on the tournament plaque, one that includes more than 80 years worth of winners. Ted Weber survived a rugged stretch of holes on the back nine and held off charges from Brad Landry, Chad Bailey and brother Todd Weber to win the city title Sunday at Les Vieux Chenes. His two-under 70, following an even-par 72 on Saturday at The Wetlands, was good enough for a one-stroke victory. "The last few holes, I was just trying to get into the clubhouse," Weber said after a two-putt bogey on the final hole that provided the one-shot win. "Even that last putt was a knee-knocker." Weber finished one stroke ahead of brother Todd — a five-time City Championship winner — while brother Thad Weber’s three-under 69 tied for Sunday’s lowest round and left him tied for fifth at two-over 146. Thad won the city title in 1998. "That says a lot," Ted Weber said of his family’s total of seven city titles. "I’ve been playing with Todd and Thad all my life, so I guess it was just my time to win." It could have been several players’ time. Landry, playing in the final group with Ted and Todd, birdied the 16th and 17th holes to get to four-under for the day and within one shot of the lead. But an errant drive on the difficult par-four 18th led to a double-bogey and a final two-under 70, leaving him two strokes back at even-par 144. Bailey, playing one group ahead of the final foursome, posted the day’s other 69 and also finished tied for third at 144. Todd Weber, meanwhile, rolled in a birdie putt on the 12th hole while Ted was taking the first of two straight bogeys, the second of which pulled him within one stroke. But the oldest of the brothers could never get any closer in closing with five straight pars, and a long tying putt on the 18th green came up short. "He deserved to win," said Todd, who won the city title in 1992, 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2006. "He played well "» no question he earned it."
