Golf: Cruz Valle Tabbed To All-Sun Belt Men’™s Golf Team
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns senior golfer Fernando Cruz Valle earned his second career All-Sun Belt Men’s Golf Team honor as he was tabbed to the All-SBC Third Team, the league office announced on Wednesday. "I’m very proud to see Fernando end this season and his career named one of the best of the league by the coaches in the Sun Belt," head coach Theo Sliman said. "There’s no question the level of devotion that he gave to this program throughout his career. Each and every season he gave everything he had to the team and I am glad to see him get rewarded for that hard work and effort. This is the ninth season in a row that our program has produced at least one all-conference selection. I’m excited to see who steps up next year and continues to carry the torch." A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Cruz Valle finished the season with a 72.80 scoring average through 11 events including 30 rounds. The 72.80 season scoring average is the fourth lowest in program history since 1993. The senior notched six top 25 performances during the 2016-17 season with three finishes inside the top 5. Cruz Valle carded 13 rounds of par or better during the season with three rounds in the 60s and saw 27 of his 30 rounds count towards the team score. In his career, Cruz Valle tallied 25 top 25 finishes including 10 in the top 10. Cruz Valle earned All-Sun Belt honors in 2014 as well as being named the SBC Freshman of the Year that season.
