HALL OF FAME GOLF: Golfers can pair up with some of the state’s all-time great athletes and athletic figures on Friday, June 26 when the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame holds its annual Celebrity Pro-Am Scramble at Oak Wing in Alexandria.

The scramble tournament is part of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Weekend where Hal Sutton, Michael Brooks, Marshall Faulk, Sonja Hogg, Willie Roaf, Freddie Spencer, Carrice Baker and Marty Broussard will be inducted into the state’s sports shrine in Natchitoches. The living members of the induction class will take part in the golf outing.

Each fivesome will be paired with a celebrity captain for the scramble, and players may create their own fivesome or will be paired up with others. Entry fee is $150 per player including two meals, golf shirt and hat, and prizes will go to the top four teams.

Entry information is available by calling the Hall of Fame office at (318) 238-4255, and entry deadline is June 22 or until a 24-team field is filled.

SKINS AT THE FARM: The Farm d’Allie has begun offering a Monday afternoon "skins" game that general manager Mark Bradshaw said will be open to all.

NEZEY MEMORIAL: The John Nezey Memorial will be Saturday, June 13, at Hebert Municipal with a noon shotgun start. The three-person scramble is open to all players with a $100 entry fee that includes a meal and door prizes, and all players must have an estimated handicap to participate.

Entry fee is $50 with gross and net prizes awarded and entry deadline of June 25. A ladies flight will also be offered with sufficient entries. Information is available in the pro shop at 364-2263.

ACES: Brandt Mouton of Kaplan used an 8-iron and a Pinnacle ball to ace the 130-yard 11th hole at Abbeville Country Club on May 15. His first-ever hole-in-one was witnessed by Nick Mouton and Lee Rougeau.

Don Aaron of Lafayette had his third career ace on May 27, using a Cleveland hybrid and a Srixon ball to hole out on the 180-yard 17th hole at Farm d’Allie. Henry Longcrier, Frank Boudreaux, George Reynolds and Bob Puckett were witnesses.

They will have a 1:5 teacher-to-student ratio and are limited to 20 youths per session, with camp fee $90 for the three-day sessions and $60 for the two-day session.

The field includes Kelsey Angelle of Arnaudville, Eustis Corrigan III, Christian Hurst, Brady Sturm, Austin Richard and Max Sandlin of Lafayette and Colby Berberich of Abbeville, along with Cody Weber of Carencro in the younger division.

FATE OR FAITH: Father Tim Richard of St. Edmund Catholic Church in Lafayette may have had some divine intervention last weekend when he recorded one of the rarest feats in golf, even more rare than a hole-in-one.

Father Richard made an albatross – a two on a par-five hole – when he holed out his 238-yard second shot Saturday on the 491-yard par-five seventh hole at Le Triomphe. Club pro Jeff Perry reported that the 3-wood was the club for the magic shot.

LAGNIAPPE: Congratulations to Todd Weber, the five-time City Championship winner, for his victory at the 41st annual James "Baba" Lastrape Tournament over the Memorial Day weekend. Weber, who has won the city title five times in this decade, carded a brilliant eight-under 64 in the opening round and followed with a 73 to win by a reported double-digit shot margin … The Regions Bank Pro-Am Tour holds its June stop Thursday at Spanish Trail. The event is open to all players and tee times are available by calling 364-2263 … Three local girls – Ali Lucas of Crowley, Sydney Martien of Lafayette and Hannah Schorr of Broussard – open play today in the Junior Girls Tri-State Championship at Oak Wing in Alexandria. They make up almost half of the eight-member Team Louisiana that is facing teams from Mississippi and Arkansas in four-ball and alternate-shot matches today and singles matches Thursday.
