Golf: Chip Shots – Former Ragin’ Cajun golf standout Devin CarreyDan McDonald, Daily Advertiser, Jan. 8, 3024 Web-COM QUALIFIER: Former Ragin’ Cajun golf standout Devin Carrey came close, barely missing out on claiming fully-exempt status on the Web.comTour for the 2014 season. Carrey finished the Tour’s six-round Qualifying Tournament, known as “Q-School,” with a 10-uner-par 422 score, tying for 56th in the 152-player field. The top 42 and ties – those who shot 12-under 420 or better – earned full-time status on Tour for next season. Carrey does have some Web.com status for the season, as do all players who made the final stage of Q-School. He will be slotted according to his final-state finish for available field slots and could move up in the first re-ranking “shuffle” which is held after the fourth tournament of the year. The 152 finalists join approximately 90 other players who secured Web.com Tour status from their 2013 performance, with that approximate 242-player group used to fill tournament fields each week. The Web.com Tour season begins Feb. 6-9 at the Panama Claro Championship in Panama City, Panama. That tour’s local stop, the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, is set for March 24-30 at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club in Broussard. (“Making the Turn” appears each Wednesday in the Daily Advertiser.
