Golf: Chip Shots – Former Cajuns: Thad & Todd Weber, Devin Carrey

Dan McDonald, Daily Advertiser, Nov. 27, 2013

HEBERT TITLES: The Lafayette Men’s Golf Association held its annual Club Championship over the weekend at Hebert Municipal, and it came down to a family affair.

Thad and Todd Weber posted identical even-par 72-72–144 scores in the two-day event, with Thad Weber winning a playoff on the first hole to take the title. The closeness of the competition was apparent, with Rusty Knight and David Duhon finishing only one stroke back at one-over 145 to finish third and fourth in the championship division, after Knight’s opening 71 gave him the first-day lead.

Jacob LeBlanc won net honors for the event with a plus-7 score, with Bill Breaux in second at plus-5, Ryan Spurgeon third at plus-2 and Erik Christianson fourth at plus-1. A total of 38 players took part in the tournament.

WEB-COM QUALIFIER: Former Ragin’ Cajun golf standout Devin Carrey heads for the final stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament in two weeks, hoping to claim a spot on Tour for the 2014 season.

Carrey, a native of British Columbia, made it through the second stage of qualifying , tying for eighth in the four-round second-stage competition at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas. The final stage is Dec. 12-17 at PGA West in LaQuinta, Calif.

All competitors who reach the final stage are assured of at least conditional status on the Web.com Tour for the 2014 season, and the top 45 finishers and ties receive full Web.com Tour status through the Tour’s second shuffle.
