Golf: Brandt Earns Top 15 Finish at All-American IntercollegiateContact: Jeff Schneider
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Junior Brandt Garon earned the top finish of his career as he led the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s golf team at the All-American Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at TPC Woodlands just outside of Houston, Texas.
“I am very happy and proud of Brandt,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “He grinded out a tough third round today. He didn’t have his best yet he was able to stay mentally tough and have his best finish at UL. I expect to see more good play from Brandt in the future.”
Garon, who started the day as the top UL individual on the leaderboard, put together another solid effort in Tuesday’s final round as he recorded a 1-over par 73 to finish tied for 14th at two-under par (214). The score is the lowest Garon has posted since donning the Vermillion and White.
No.10 Arkansas was the wire-to-wire champion edging out No.32 North Texas by one stroke with a 54-hole total of 23-under par (841).
The Cajuns just could not put together a collective team performance as UL finished the event in 11th place (874) after carding a final round score of 294.
“I think we had a really good opportunity ahead of today and we didn’t take advantage of it,” Sliman said. “We made some costly mistakes especially on the finishing holes. The field was strong, but it was also very tight for much of the day and we missed a good opportunity to show how good of a team we are. I still have a lot of belief in this team no question, and now its time for us to come home and start preparing for the conference tournament.”
Both Andrew Noto and Chris Weninger finished in a tie for 37th at three-over par (219). Yohann Vora capped the scoring for Louisiana in a tie for 61st at nine-over par (225).
The Mean Green (842), No.14 Texas A&M (845), No.44 SMU (857) and No.27 Baylor (861) round out the top 5 at the All-American Intercollegiate. A&M’s Geoff Shaw held on to take the individual medalist honors after posting his third straight round in the sixties to finish at 11-under par (205).
UL returns to action on April 23 when the Cajuns head to Muscle Shoals, Ala. for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Louisiana is looking to capture its first SBC title since 2007.
