Former Golf: Former Golf Standout Finishes Second At European Q School

Jeff Schneider, September 26, 2013

GÖHREN-LEBBIN, Germany – Former Ragin’ Cajuns golf standout Philipp Fendt finished in a tie for second at the First Qualifying Stage carding a four-round score of 14-under par (274) at the Golf & Country Club Fleesensee in Göhren-Lebbin, Germany.

With the performance, Fendt was one of 24 golfers to advance to the Second Qualifying Stage as he continues his quest to earn a spot on the European Tour.

"After I had been out for three months due to a back injury, it was uncertain whether I could participate in any tournaments this fall," Fendt said. "Thanks to my doctors I was able to start practicing again, and in the third week of August and signed up for Q School last minute.

"Going into Q School my game and body both felt better than ever even though I had only been practicing for three weeks. I took perfect advantage of the first tee time on the first day and shot a 67 right out the gates."

After rounds of 69 and 72, the Vienna, Austria native went on to shoot a 66 (-6) in the final round to seal the progression to the next round. Fendt was a fixture in the Ragin’ Cajuns lineup from 2008-12 posting a strong 73.08 scoring average in four years.

Fendt is coming off of a tournament title at Austrian Professional Golfers Championship where he shot rounds of 67, 70 and 63 to win by five strokes.

"It has been two really great weeks, which have given me loads of confidence for second stage of Q School," Fendt added.
