Former Football: Ringo Selected By Packers In 2015 NFL Draft

Defensive end first Cajun taken in NFL Draft since Bentley, Green picked in 2012

LAFAYETTE – After anchoring a defensive line that boasted the best rushing defense in the Sun Belt Conference last season, former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns star Christian Ringo was selected in the sixth round by the Green Bay Packers as the 2015 NFL Draft concluded on Saturday.
 
Ringo, a four-year letterwinner from Jackson, Miss., recorded 45 tackles on the season for Louisiana and ranked 12th nationally with 11.5 sacks and seventh in tackles for loss (20.0). The 6-foot-1, 277-pound product, finished third overall in the league in sacks and earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and was voted as the Louisiana Sports Writers Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Ringo, who started all 13 games for the Ragin’ Cajuns, set the single-season record in sacks and tied the career record (21.0) in final minute of Louisiana’s 16-3 win over Nevada in the R�L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. He set a single-game record with 5.5 tackles for loss in a win at ULM and returned a fumble recovery 41 yards for a touchdown in a nationally-televised victory at Texas State.
 
Ringo is the first Ragin’ Cajuns player selected in the NFL Draft since Dwight Bentley (3rd round, Detroit) and Ladarius Green (4th round, San Diego) in 2012.
