Former Football: Ravens release UL great Stokley

Ravens cut Brandon Stokley, re-sign Billy Bajema

Buster Skrine, Brandon Stokley AP

Brandon Stokley’s second stint with the Ravens has come to an end.

Stokley, the veteran receiver who began his career with the Ravens in 1999 and returned to the team this season, has been released.

With Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones getting healthier, and with youngsters Deonte Thompson and Marlon Brown showing promise, there just wasn’t much room on the depth chart for Stokley, who had nine catches for 79 yards so far this season.

With the roster spot made available by cutting Stokley, the Ravens re-signed tight end Billy Bajema. He was released this week to make room on the 53-man roster for tackle Eugene Monroe.

Athletic Network Footnote:
Stokley is the all-time Cajuns leading receiver and had a stellar NFL career which included 393 receptions for 5,303 yards and 39 touchdowns. He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens in 2000, catching a touchdown pass in the win over the NY Giants.
