Former Football: Moten & Odom Earn Invites To NFL Mini-Camps

April 3, 2013

LAFAYETTE, La. — The number of Ragin’ Cajuns football players headed to NFL mini camps this week rose to eight today when Jaron Odom and Jemarlous Moten each announced that they have come to an agreement with NFL clubs.

Moten will be in Baltimore for the mini camp of the Super Bowl champion Ravens while Odom has accepted an invitation from the Carolina Panthers.  They join Brett Baer (St. Louis), Cordian Hagans (Pittsburgh), Javone Lawson (Arizona), Harry Peoples (Chicago), Emeka Onyenekwu (Miami) and Melvin White (Carolina), who reached agreements earlier this week.

“It is good to see both Jaron and Jemarlous get an opportunity to compete this weekend.  They deserve them,” Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said.  “They were two of our leaders last season and I wish them the best of luck as they pursue their NFL dreams.

“We have eight of our seniors headed to NFL camps this weekend.  That speaks volumes for the type of talent that we both have and want in our program,” Hudspeth added.

Moten, a 5-11, 175-pound cornerback from Leland, Miss., earned first team All-Sun Belt honors after finishing third on the team with 65 tackles (49 solo).  In week two, he received Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after making a career-high 13 tackles (11 solo) at Troy, causing and returning a fumble 56 yards for a touchdown.

Moten started all 26 games during his Cajuns career, making 145 tackles with seven interceptions, two fumbles caused, two fumbles recovered and 14 pass breakups.

Odom, a 6-6, 330-pound offensive tackle from Carver Ranches, Fla., started the final 26 games of his Louisiana career.  He earned honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors as a senior after playing 870 of the 873 offensive downs, anchoring an offensive line that allowed just 12 sacks all season.

A mainstay in the lineup, Odom played 1,577 consecutive downs over a 23-game period as a junior and senior.
