Former Football: Former Cajun Anderson Added To New York Giants Practice SquadFirst-Team All-Sun Belt selection signed as undrafted free agent in May
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns linebacker Justin Anderson was added to the New York Giants practice squad on Wednesday, one of two moves made by the NFL team to fill an injury-riddled defense. The Giants also announced the signing of cornerback Mike Harris to the active roster and placed of linebacker Jon Beason on injured reserve. Anderson, a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2013, was waived/injured by the Giants during their final cuts in August. He suffered a hamstring injury during the preseason, and wasn’t eligible to return to the Giants until Week 9, which began on Tuesday. Anderson was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in May. In four preseason games, Anderson had five tackles and a forced fumble. He played mostly weakside linebacker during training camp and the preseason. Anderson took the roster spot of linebacker Carlos Fields who was released from the practice squad on Tuesday after being signed on Oct. 14. The Foley, Ala., native recorded 131 tackles on the season for the Ragin’ Cajuns with 11 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Anderson earned Sun Belt Conference and LSWA Defensive Player of the Week honors after making a career-high 16 stops with a pair of forced fumbles and fumble recoveries in a win at Western Kentucky.
