Former Football: Ex-Cajun Tovell lands with NFL’s FalconsTim Buckley, The Advertiser, Aug. 6, 2016 After recently being signed and subsequently waived by the Detroit Lions, former Ragin’ Cajuns linebacker Dominique Tovell signed as a free agent Friday with the Atlanta Falcons. The undrafted Tovell, now on Atlanta’s 90-man roster, was UL’s leading tackler last season. He also was signed and cut by the New Orleans Saints earlier this year. As of Saturday, six other ex-Cajuns were in NFL training camp: tight end Ladarius Green (Pittsburgh), cornerback Melvin White (Minnesota), defensive lineman Justin Hamilton (Seattle), defensive lineman Christian Ringo (Green Bay), receiver Jamal Robinson (Jacksonville) and offensive lineman Donovan Williams (Chicago). Green is on Pittsburgh’s active/Physically Unable to Performance (PUP) list following offseason ankle surgery. Of the six, only Green (with San Diego) and White (with Carolina) have played regular-season NFL games. Hamilton (Green Bay, Seattle) and Ringo (Green Bay) were on NFL practice squads as rookies last season. Robinson and Williams, both undrafted, also were UL seniors last season. A few ex-Cajuns who’ve recently played in the NFL currently are without NFL teams, including defensive back Bill Bentley (formerly with Detroit), running back Alonzo Harris (who played briefly for Green Bay and ended last season on Baltimore’s practice squad), linebacker Justin Anderson (who played a couple games for the New York Giants in 2014) and now-retired cornerback Charles Tillman.
