Former Basketball: Ex-Cajun Keke Veal to coach prep hoops

Former UL standout and Keke Veal has been hired as head girls basketball coach at Port Barre High School.

Veal began practicing the team Monday, and she will gradually assume a more prominent role as the season progresses.

Port Barre baseball coach Craig Stevens, who has coached basketball, has been assisting the girls’ and boys’ basketball programs.

Veal, former Cajuns guard from Opelousas, finished the 2016 season with UL averaging 17 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She recorded 76 assists, 71 steals and 309 points. She was named to the All-Louisiana first team and All-Sun Belt team.
