Former Baseball: Ragin’™ Cajuns Pro Update

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team has 13 former players currently active in professional baseball this summer led by Jonathan Lucroy who became the fourth Louisiana alum to earn a spot in the mid-summer classic after being named a reserve for the 2014 MLB All-Star game this past weekend.

 

 

 

Lucroy has the third highest average in the National League hitting .326 with 30 doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 44 RBI. While helping the Milwaukee Brewers post the best record in the National League at 52-38, Lucroy has scored 42 times and has an impressive .907 OPS which ranks sixth in the league. Lucroy joins B.J. Ryan (2005, 2006), Ron Guidry (1978, 1979, 1982, 1983) and Alvin Dark (1951,1952, 1954) as the only Cajuns players to be selected to the All-Star game.

 

 

 

Danny Faquhar is also in the majors with the Seattle Mariners and has a 1-1 record and a 2.61 ERA in 36 appearances. The relief pitcher has 44 strikeouts in 38 innings and has recorded a save.

 

 

 

Ryan Leonards started the summer with the Great Falls Voyagers (Chicago White Sox/Rookie) of the Pioneer League but was elevated to the Kannapolis Intimidators (Chicago White Sox/A) of the South Atlantic League. Leonards is hitting .321 in 15 games with two doubles, two triples, two home runs and five RBI.

 

 

 

Dex Kjerstad is also in the South Atlantic League with the Lexington Legends (Kansas City Royals/A) and is hitting .220 with six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI.

 

 

 

Jace Conrad has had a good start to his pro career hitting .300 with nine RBI and with four doubles in 14 games for the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays/Low A) in the New York-Penn League.

 

 

 

Carson Baranik is currently in the Arizona League with the AZL Dodgers (LA Dodgers/Rookie) and is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three appearances. Chase Compton and Seth Harrison are also in the Arizona League with the AZL Giants (San Francisco/Rookie) as Compton has made two starts while Harrison just joined the squad.

 

 

 

Caleb Adams, Austin Robichaux and Michael Strentz are all in the Pioneer League with the Orem Owlz (Los Angeles Angels/Rookie). Adams is hitting .245 in 15 games with two doubles, a triple three home runs and eight RBI, while Strentz has a .227 average in six games with four RBI. Robichaux has thrown nine innings for the Owls and has yet to factor into a decision.

 

 

 

Jordan Harrison is with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Tampa Bay Rays/High A) in the Florida State League. Harrison is 1-1 this season with a 2.57 ERA in nine appearances.

 

 

 

Chase Lambin is a member of the Sugar Land Skeeters (Independent) of the Atlantic League and has a .182 average with five doubles, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBI in 52 games.
