Football:Ragin’ Cajuns Rebowe Named Head Coach At Nicholls State

Veteran coach will remain with Ragin’ Cajuns through the end of the season

Tim Rebowe

LAFAYETTE – Tim Rebowe, who has spent 11 seasons on the staff for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team, will leave at the end of the season after he was officially named head coach at Nicholls State University on Friday.

Rebowe, who will remain on the Ragin’ Cajuns staff through the end of the 2014 season, was officially announced as the Colonels’ 10th head coach during a Friday morning press conference in Thibodaux. In his tenure at Louisiana that began in 2004, Rebowe helped the Ragin’ Cajuns to three bowl victories in the past three seasons and the Sun Belt Conference championship.

"I am determined and committed to finish out the season (in Lafayette) and I want to come back and bring some of that success that we’ve had here to the Bayou," Rebowe said during his introductory press conference. "As the head coach, I want to renew Nicholls football and I want to lead this team with pride and integrity."

A native of Norco, La., Rebowe began his coaching career at Destrehan High School where he coached future NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed and former Ragin’ Cajuns standout Damon Mason. He moved on to the college ranks beginning in 1995 when he worked on Darren Barbier’s staff at Nicholls State, coaching defensive backs and special teams while serving as the Colonels’ recruiting coordinator.

Rebowe remained with the Colonels through the 2000 season before spending three seasons at ULM. He joined the Ragin’ Cajuns staff in 2004 as safeties coach and served from 2008-10 as linebackers coach.

Since 2011, Rebowe has served as the Ragin’ Cajuns secondary coach where his 2013 unit finished tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead with 14 interceptions.

"I think they hired the right man for the job," Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "Tim is going to bring to Nicholls State University a wealth of excitement, a winning attitude and great experience of recruiting in the state of Louisiana. I have no doubt that they will be successful and will be one of the top teams in the Southland Conference.

"Both on and off the field, Tim has played a huge part in the success that we have had with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, winning three consecutive bowl games, a Sun Belt Conference championship and having the highest team GPA in the Sun Belt Conference."
