Football: UL’s Harris Named Sun Belt Offensive Player Of The Week

UL running back Alonzo Harris has been named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.

The junior from Gadsden City High in Gadsden, Ala., had five touchdown runs (2, 6, 5, 3 and 30 yards) in last Saturday’s 49-35 come-from-behind win over New Mexico State.

Harris ran 16 times for 106 yards for the 6-2 Ragin’ Cajuns, who take a six-game win streak into Thursday night’s ESPNU-televised Sun Belt game against Troy at Cajun Field.

The Sun Belt’s defensive Player of the Week is Arkansas State safety Sterling Young, who had nine tackles and an interception in a win over South Alabama, and its special teams Player of the Week is UL Monroe’s Justin Manton, who had seven PATs and averaged 47.2 yards per punt in a win over Troy.
