Football: Ringo, Stover Claim LSWA Weekly Football Honors

Duo instrumental in helping Ragin’ Cajuns to SBC win over South Alabama

Christian Ringo, Hunter Stover

BATON ROUGE – After helping the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to a 19-9 victory over South Alabama last weekend in a key Sun Belt Conference battle, Christian Ringo and Hunter Stover were each honored on Monday at the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Football Players of the Week in a release by the organization.

Ringo, a senior from Jackson, Miss., was named the LSWA co-Defensive Player of the Week after another solid performance in a Sun Belt Conference game. Ringo, the SBC leader in sacks (8) and tackles for loss (14), recorded five tackles in the game, including three for loss, a pair of sacks, a quarterback hurry and a key fumble recovery.

Ringo made the key defensive play of the game in the fourth quarter, recovering a Kndall Houston fumble at the UL 6, that helped preserve a 12-9 lead and would lead to an eventual Elijah McGuire touchdown.

Stover, a senior from Abbeville, was named the LSWA Special Teams Player of the Week after going perfect in a career-best four field goal attempts against the Jaguars. Stover, who added a pair of touchbacks in six kickoff attempts, booted field goals of 23, 26 and 22 yards for Louisiana before his final kick from 32 yards with 11:28 remaining snapped a 9-9 deadlock.

On the season, the first-year starter is 10-for-10 in field goals under 40 yards and is eighth in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring and second in field goals (10-for-12).
