Football: Ringo Named Sun Belt Defensive Player Of The Week

Senior scored first career touchdown in league win at Texas State

Christian Ringo

NEW ORLEANS – After helping the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to an impressive win on the road, senior Christian Ringo was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week in a release by the league office on Monday.

Ringo, a native of Jackson, Miss., registered four tackles, with three stops for loss, a pair of sacks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the Ragin’ Cajuns 34-10 win at Texas State on Tuesday.

The defensive lineman recorded a sack in the first quarter before scoring his first career touchdown when he scooped up a Texas State fumble and ran 41 yards to give Louisiana a 14-3 lead in the second quarter.

Ringo, who is second in the SBC in tackles for loss (8) and tied for third in the league in sacks (4), added a sack in the fourth quarter to help the Ragin’ Cajuns remain unbeaten in the Sun Belt Conference.

Ringo is the second member of the Ragin’ Cajuns to earn SBC weekly honors joining punter Daniel Cadona, who was named the SBC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 15.

Louisiana (3-3, 2-0 SBC) will return to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Arkansas State (4-2, 2-0 SBC) in a nationally-televised ESPN2 contest at Cajun Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:04 p.m.
