Football: Ragin’ Cajuns Hand Out Spring AwardsJacquet, Dillon among newcomers earning Red-White MVP Awards
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football coach Mark Hudspeth handed out several player awards as he held his post-Spring Practice Press Conference on Tuesday. The Ragin’ Cajuns, who wrapped up spring drills last Saturday, will open the 2016 season at Cajun Field on Sept. 3 against Boise State. Receiver Michael Jacquet, along with offensive linemen Eddie Gordon and Grant Horst, were each named Offensive MVP by the Ragin’ Cajuns coaching staff with cornerback Simeon Thomas and redshirt freshman Joe Dillon being recognized as the Defensive MVP. Hudspeth also announced the following scholarship players were named Most Improved: Dion Ray (QB), Jordan Wright (RB), Robert Hunt (OL), Devin Scott (WR), Matthew Barnes (TE), Mario Osborne (DL), Lorenzo Cryer (CB), Travis Crawford (S), Terik Miller (N/D), Alonzo Brown (ILB) and Stevie Artigue (ST). Redshirt freshman Gunner Hudspeth (QB) and receiver Chris Collins were named the Most Improved among developmental players on offense with Shay LaPorte (LB), Angus Sinclair (LB) and Errol Brown (DB) earning Most Improved Awards on defense. Named as the Most Unselfish during spring practice was Jerrell Richardson (WR), Ashton Johnson (DB) and Terrence Jones (LB).
