Football: Ragin’ Cajuns Announce Promotions of Johnson, Munoz UL associate head coach Jay Johnson(Photo: UL Sports Information) LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns head football coach Mark Hudspeth announced that current offensive assistants Jay Johnson and Jorge Munoz were each elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach and Passing Game Coordinator, respectively. Johnson, who will continue in his role as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has directed one of the top offensive attacks in the Sun Belt Conference entering his fourth season with the Ragin’ Cajuns. "We’re excited about the job that Coach Johnson has done in the last three years with our offense," Hudspeth said. "He is a veteran coach that brings a lot to our staff and we wanted to give him more responsibility and promote him to Associate Head Coach, as I will rely on his experience." Beginning in his first season in 2011, Johnson was responsible in the emergence of Blaine Gautier, who threw for a school-record 2,958 yards and 23 touchdowns. Under Johnson’s tutelage in 2012, Terrance Broadway replaced Gautier at quarterback and posted a school-record 3,611 yards of total offense. As a team, the Ragin’ Cajuns set single-season school records for total offense (5,914) and points scored (461) The Cajuns set school-records for total first downs (283) and total plays from scrimmage (883) in 2013 while producing four first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selections, including the running back tandem of Alonzo Harris (a 2014 Doak Walker Watch List candidate) and Elijah McGuire. Broadway, who was named to the Davey O’Brien Watch List earlier this month, led all league starting quarterbacks in passing efficiency while completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,419 yards and 19 touchdowns. Munoz, entering his seventh year on the staff, has coached the Ragin’ Cajuns wide receivers the past three seasons under Hudspeth, helping produce some of the top receivers in school history. "Jorge does an incredible job with our wide receivers, and in the last three years our passing game has been very successful," Hudspeth said. "He has done a great job with our passing game and we wanted to promote him to passing game coordinator." In 2013, Munoz was instrumental in the play of Jamal Robinson, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors after finishing seventh in the league in receptions (54) and fifth in receiving yards per game (66.3), while his eight TD receptions were tied for fifth-most in a single season in school history. Robinson, a preseason first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, was named to the Biletnikoff Watch List last month. —
