Football: Ragin’ Cajuns Announce Football Television Broadcast Team for 2018 Season

Louisiana television broadcasts will feature Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard on commentary

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Athletics announced on Friday the television broadcast team for the 2018 Louisiana Football season, as Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard will guide Ragin’ Cajuns fans through the beginning of the Billy Napier Era.

PARTNERSHIP WITH ESPN: In conjunction with the Sun Belt Conference’s expanded partnership with ESPN, which grants ESPN exclusive rights for the distribution of all Sun Belt sports, Louisiana is producing, in-house, all six home football games during the 2018 season.

The games will continue to be shown on ESPN’s family of networks, including the new ESPN platform, with McDonald (play-by-play) and Broussard (color) calling the action.

SETTLE IN WITH A HALL OF FAMER: McDonald, a Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame inductee, has been actively covering Louisiana Athletics since 1980 when he became the Sports Information Director for the Ragin’ Cajuns, a position he held for 19 years.

McDonald was the voice of the Ragin’ Cajuns Digital Network during the 2017-18 season calling Louisiana men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball games streamed online. He was also provided play-by-play for the Cox Sports Television broadcasts of select Ragin’ Cajuns home events which debuted last year.

FAMILIAR FACE: Broussard is no stranger to Louisiana Football, having been involved with the program since first joining the team as a student-athlete in 1979. After the completion of his playing career, he immediately transitioned to the sideline, joining the coaching staff in 1984 and patrolling the sidelines through 1998.

After a decade away from Lafayette, Broussard returned to Louisiana’s coaching staff for three more seasons starting in 2008. He then began his broadcast career in 2012, joining the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Radio Network for a six-year stint. Since then, he has been in the broadcast booth for various Louisiana Athletics events, most recently teaming with McDonald for coverage of the 2018 spring football game broadcast on Cox Sports Television.

EXCITING ESPN PLATFORM: ESPN is the new, direct-to-consumer, streaming sports subscription service being offered by the Worldwide Leader in Sports. The new service will feature thousands of live events and original programming, exclusively featuring Sun Belt Conference sporting events.

ESPN is an integrated part of the ESPN digital experience, available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV and online at ESPN.com. Fans can sign up for the service on a seven-day free trail, then pay $4.99 per month thereafter. Click here for more information.

ONE WEEK TO GO: Louisiana begins the Coach Napier Era on Saturday, Sept. 1, when the Ragin’ Cajuns host Grambling at Cajun Field in the 18th Annual Herbert Heymann Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. It is the first of six Saturday home games scheduled at Cajun Field this fall.

TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE: Fans can purchase tickets through the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at the Cajundome, by either visiting the office in person or by calling (337) 265-2357. Fans who cannot make it to the Cajundome can get their tickets online by visiting RaginCajuns.com/Tickets.
