Football: Nixon Earns LSWA Player Of The Week Honors

BATON ROUGE – After recording a career night in which he became the second player in Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football history to rush and pass for over 200 yards in a single-game, junior quarterback Jalen Nixon was named on Monday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Offensive Player of the Week.

Nixon, in his third career start, rushed for a career-high 201 yards and passed for 253 last week at Arkansas State to become the second quarterback in Ragin’ Cajuns history to rush for 200 yards and pass for 200 yards in a single-game. He tossed a pair of touchdown passes while adding a 75-yard touchdown run.

The Carencro, La., native joined Brian Mitchell, who rushed for 271 yards and passed for 205 yards against Colorado State in 1987, as the lone players in Ragin’ Cajuns history to record 200 yards rushing and passing in the same game.

Nixon, who was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12, is the second Ragin’ Cajun to earn LSWA honors this season. Teammate Jeryl Brazil was named the LSWA Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 12 after his performance against Texas State.

Louisiana (2-4, 1-1 SBC) will return to action on Saturday when it plays host to in-state opponent ULM (1-6, 0-3 SBC) in the 70th annual Homecoming game at Cajun Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
