Football: Louisville mistaken for UL on AP Top 25 poll

Tim Buckley, Daily Advertiser, Nov. 25, 2013

An error in the release of the AP Top 25 college football poll today initially led some to believe 8-2 UL had been nationally ranked at No. 21.

A correction came shortly thereafter, however, from the “AP Top 25” Twitter account saying, “Hey folks, web site has a glitch. Louisville is No. 21. NOT ULL. The poll posted on the wire is corrected. The one on the web site is not.”

The errant website poll later incorrectly showed both UL — which some in the country still reference as ULL, despite the school’s wishes — and 10-1 Louisville at No. 21.

An additional error on The AP Top 25 Poll site used the wrong logo for the Ragin’ Cajuns, instead showing one belonging to Lafayette College — an NCAA FCS program in Pennsylvania, not the NCAA FBS program located in Lafayette, Louisiana.

That’s a mistake also made earlier this month by ESPN3 in its coverage of UL’s Nov. 16 win at Georgia State.

Unranked UL actually received no votes in the AP Top 25 writers’ poll. It did for a second straight week receive six votes in the USA Today Top 25 coaches’ poll, which was tied for 32nd-most in the country.

The Cajuns, idle last Saturday, are preparing to face UL Monroe on Saturday night at Cajun Field.
