Football: Four Ragin’ Cajuns Players Named to LSWA Teams

Trey Ragas, Robert Hunt, Kevin Dotson and Elijah Mitchell Recognized on All-Louisiana Teams

LAFAYETTE – Four members of the Louisiana Football team were recognized for their on-field performances during the 2018 season when they earned spots on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s (LSWA) All-Louisiana Teams.

Senior Robert Hunt, junior Kevin Dotson and sophomore Trey Ragas each earned First Team honors, while Elijah Mitchell was named a Second Team member. Dotson is making his second appearance on an LSWA team after claiming Second Team recognition last season.

Ragas was the team’s workhorse on the ground in 2018, rushing for a team-leading 1,118 yards, the fifth most in a single season, and eight touchdowns. He became the eighth running back to rush for over 1,000 yards in program history and finished the season with a school-record seven 100-yard rushing games, surpassing the previous record of six held by Tyrell Fenroy.

Mitchell fell 15 yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark (985), but still made his presence felt on the ground with a team-high 13 rushing touchdowns, narrowly missing out on the top-five for a single season in that category. In 13 games played, he averaged 75.8 yards per contest, posting four 100-yard rushing performances and three three-touchdown games.

Leading the charge for the Ragin Cajuns’ ground attack were Hunt and Dotson, who started every game up front. The duo paced an offensive line that helped produce the 23rd-ranked rushing attack in the country with 218.7 yards per game and 3,062 total yards, while blocking for three running backs that rushed for at least 700 yards.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will welcome back eight starters on the offensive side of the ball, including both Dotson and Ragas.
