NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns junior linebacker Grant Fleming was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Fleming was a key contributor on defense, as the Cajuns held La.-Monroe to 91 yards passing, but it was his play on special teams that was vital to the Cajuns victory. With UL holding a 21-17 lead and punting back to ULM from the Cajuns 21-yard line with 1:38 remaining, Fleming recovered a fumble on punt coverage that allowed the team to run out the clock in victory. The Cajuns took a knee twice to win their sixth game of the season. Fleming also boasted nine tackles on defense. The SBC Player of the Week award is the sixth by a Cajuns player this season and is the first in Fleming’s career. FLEMING AND GREEN ADD LSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS Louisiana’s Fleming (Special Teams) and Ladarius Green (Offense) were selected for Louisiana Sports Writers Association weekly football awards Monday as voted upon by the LSWA. Fleming adds LSWA Special Teams Player of the Week accolades in addition to the SBC Award. Green, a midseason addition to the Mackey Award Watch List, earned Offensive Player of the Week after returning at tight end to the Cajuns offense from a three-game absence due to injury. Green was the key component in the team’s 21-17 win, totaling 131 yards receiving on seven catches. His big-play ability was evident as Green recorded receptions of 29, 52, 22 and 13 yards en route to the largest receiving total by a UL player since 2004. Green drew two pass interference calls on the Cajuns game-winning drive, including a key call on third-and-eight from the Cajuns 38-yard line. ![]()
